.cb LOTS SPACE REQUIREMENTS
The current plan is to locate LOTS in Pine Hall, and this is
seems to be the best solution, although if enough space could be
found in the center of campus, it would be even better. The following
kinds of space are required:
.item←0
#. Space for the machine and potential expansion. Beyond the
current space for the machine, we must allow for more disk drives,
another tape drive, a graphics printer, and possibly another display
processor and other new input-output devices.
#. Hard copy terminal room. We expect to start with 32
Decwriter II terminals rented from SCIP. Each requires a chair and
a table.
#. When we get display terminals, we will need a room for them
separate from the printing terminals.
#. Desk space in the terminal room - say 16 chairs at tables.
#. Offices for the manager and the systems programmer.
#. A bull pen for the student volunteer staff. A dozen desks
should be available. We will need extensive volunteer help, and
providing reasonable space is essential in attracting it.
#. A desk for the Director - perhaps in the Manager's office.
The Director won't spend much time there but needs a place to sit.
#. A bench for electronics work. A lockable room for tools
and the oscilloscope and for D.E.C. to keep spare parts.
#. The computer room should be lockable, but we may not keep
it locked, and anyway we expect to give
many people keys. The number who will have keys to the supplies room
will be much smaller.
#. The secretary will need a desk with typewriter and a terminal.
She will ordinarily provide users directly with login initials and
passwords. She will serve as a receptionist so her desk should be
easily accessible, but there should be separate access to the terminal
rooms.
